パスモの滝

PASMO FALLS (2016 onwards) – Hossawa waterfall is Tokyo’s only contribution to an elite list of 100 must see waterfalls in Japan. I used to associate waterfalls with travel into Japan’s interior where the conveniences of the city don’t hold sway. Yet, Hossawa waterfall can be reached with one of Japan’s greatest conveniences: the Pasmo card, a proprietary IC card (and also the common alternative to the JR backed SUICA). Providing there was credit on the card, travel to the waterfall was long but smooth. As with everything, I began rephotographing it because I once made photographs there, but also because it was a popular place for visitors to make photographs and upload them to Instagram. These aspects convened in an image set which has paused since 2018. In many ways, it served as as a place of experimentation prior to Iwate prefecture taking on that role. Former students will also recognise it from various online photography course videos. Thus, there are rephotographs of others’ images, rephotographs of own images, as well as images of friends and family accompanying me, but there are also a range of photomedia (e.g. digital, film, instax, web camera). I will return to Hossawa waterfall some day when everything else has paused.
