フォトメディアのリサーチスキルは不可欠です。高校生の91％がスマートフォンのカメラ機能付きデバイスを所有していると言われていますが、学生にはフォトメディアを「読み・書き」する力（＝フォトメディア・リテラシー）を学ぶ必要があります。しかし、大都市以外の高校では次のような理由から課題があります。❶ 現代のフォトメディア作品に触れる機会が少ない ❷ 美術の授業では写真が絵画・彫刻・デザインと競合する ❸ 美術の授業自体を開講していない高校もある ❹ フォトメディア関連の材料は一般的に高価である。「MESSY MAGIC」ワークショップは、高校の先生では提供しづらい英語での体験を通して、これらの問題を解決する助けになります。このワークショップでは、学生がさまざまなフォトメディアのプロセスについて学びます。結局のところ、フォトメディアは単なる魔法ではなく、きちんと機能する“科学”なのです。
Photomedia research skills are essential. Although 91% of high school students are said to own smartphone camera devices, students need to learn to read & write with photomedia (i.e. photomedia literacy). This is a problem for high schools outside major cities because: ❶ There is less access to contemporary examples of photomedia; ❷ Photographs in art classes competes with painting, sculpture, design; ❸ Some high schools do not even offer art classes; and ❹ Photomedia materials are usually expensive. ‘MESSY MAGIC’ workshops help those problems by providing opportunities (in English) that high school teachers cannot. In these workshops, students learn about different photomedia processes. After all, photomedia is not just magic; it is science that works.
